this knife has the similar feel, heft, and shape as the fancy German stuff but at something like 20% of the price!! OK ...the finish is not super clean, but get one of the pricey knives and use it hard for a few years and it won't look perfect anymore either. the blade itself has a smoother radius for proper rocking motion than many of the more expensive knives. the blade is not highly polished, but i feel that is an advantage. i have used enough of the highly polished blades to know that many "wetter" vegetables (like zucchinis) tend to cling to the polished blades. they don't cling as much to the farberware blade. The blade also took a wonderful edge with just a few strokes of a ceramic sharpener and stayed sharper than its German brethren.all in all, cost less, performs better than stuff costing 3X-5X as much. just not quite as pretty.

As the previous reviewer mentioned, it's not the most sophisticated knife, but it does keep an edge well (people are consistently amazed/frightened by how sharp this knife is), and it works extremely well in the kitchen (I'm constantly reaching for it, and even at home, with my Mom's more expensive knives, I wish I had it).

An excellent knife, and very functional.It is in the German style, so the forged blade is thicker than the Japanese style. This makes is slightly more rigid, but also heavier.At a price of under $11 this is a knife I will not be afraid to use.Reasonably well balanced.I always hand wash chef knives, and do use a cutting board. Holds an edge well.Bottom line: built to work, not a "Name" brand, and a good deal.
