The 3 Quart enamel Dutch oven is great for cooking, marinating, and freezing. Lodge color porcelain enamel on cast iron cookware is cast from molten iron in individual sand molds. The porcelain surface eliminates the need to season cast iron. The cast iron vessel has superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating bottom, sidewalls, and even the lid. Two layers of very hard, glossy porcelain enamel are chip resistant and easy to clean. Hygienic porcelain enamel is non-reactive with food. Knob is oven safe to 400 degrees. Tightly fitting lid seals in moisture and the excellent heat retention reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking. Perfect size for singles/couples or for side dishes for families.The cast iron is great for heat retention and durability. The enamel coating allows for more versatility than regular cast. The green is a beautiful green that is close to what is shown on screen.I love the fact that you can start a dish on stovetop and then transfer to oven, all in one pot. Food tastes delicious and cleanup is a breeze.Some tips from the brochure:The porcelain surface eliminates the need to season cast iron. The black rim on the pot and lid are matte porcelain, not exposed cast iron.The knob is oven safe to 400 degrees.Hygienic porcelain enamel is non-reactive with food.Use for any cooking technique, as well as to marinate, refrigerate, and freeze.Lodge Color Porcelain Enamel on Cast Iron cookware can be used on gas, electric, ceramic, and induction cooktops, as well as in the oven. It is not recommended for use on outdoor grills, or over open outdoor flames.Do not use in the microwave.Cleaning and Care Tips:Hand wash with warm soapy water. Use plastic scouring pads to assist in cleaning.For persistent stains on Lodge Color Porcelain Enamel on Cast Iron cookware, soak interior of the cookware for 2 to 3 hours with a solution of bleach, consisting of one teaspoon of bleach per pint of water.If there is baked on food on the cookware, boil a mixture of 1 cup of water and 2 tablespoons of baking soda in the cookware.Hope the information helps.

I have a couple of Le Creuset products, so when I saw this I was first amazed at the price (The price on this item has fluctuated quite a bit, from the low $20s to the $50s, strange...), especially considering the price of Le Creuset. I decided to try this one, mainly because I needed something in this size. I really can't tell much difference in this brand and the other. It's a great dutch oven, perfect for smaller dishes. The color is great, just like you see, and the results after cooking with it for a couple of months - Excellent. For some things, there's just nothing better than cast iron, especially soups and stews. Nice size for a smaller beef burgundy or coq au vin, and casseroles come out very well also. This was an excellent addition to my cookware.

The first thing youll notice about the 3q dutch oven, is that it is wider than it is tall. This is important to allow the pot to heat faster along the sides and still maintain long term cooking temperatures. I prefer this being shallow more because it does shorten the cooking times slightly being that everything is closer to the burner. Water boils faster and meats stay more tender. All of this applies to stove top cooking. When cooking in the oven it really doesnt make a difference if its tall or shallow.As of January 2012 all Lodge Enameled products (excluding the panini press) come with the stainless steel handle not the plastic one. They did away with the plastic to add more versatility and safety in the oven for higher temperatures.Lodge Color vs Lodge L-series: I talked directly to their customer service to get the low down on this subject. Both sets are enameled the same way by the same vendor with the same amount of enameled layers. They obtain the same quality control. Other than the obvious shape and color differences the only thing that separates the 2 sets are the stainless steel handles and embellishments on the L-series. I was also told by customer service that they are phasing out the L-series and are going to continue to move forward with the Color series.Just an FYI the Emerald Green is a little darker than the Le Creuset Fennel Color if you are looking to match the two sets. You might notice more of a difference in color between the Lodge's dutch oven and Le Creuset's French oven (same thing) but overall they are quite close in color. But between the skillets you wont notice much of a difference unless you examined them right next to each other. They actually match quite well. I own Le Creuset pieces in Fennel and Lodge Color pieces in Emerarld Green. I have not seen either out perform the other.
